Shuffling Paper

Can you say “government waste”:

The bill, if passed, would have the peculiar effect of allowing states to use the $31 billion in federal funds to pay back loans they’d taken out from the federal government to shore up their unemployment insurance funds. They could also use the money to pay interest on those loans, which comes due later this year.

Is there any better way to typify government waste?

“Yeah, we’re gonna pass a bill that gives you money you can use to pay back your debt to us.”

Anyway, it now appears that the federal government has officially devolved into self-parody. If this doesn’t signal the end of America as we know it, I don’t what will.
