About

Simon Grey is the pseudonym of choice for the intrepid writer of this blog.  Said writer has seen that Truth is more readily accepted when unattached to flesh and blood, which is why he chooses to write under a nom de plume.  Ideas and concepts should be discussed on their own merits, divorced from the people espousing them.

Le Cygne Gris (French for “the gray swan”) is a reference to a concept in Nicholas Nassim Taleb’s wonderful book, The Black Swan.  A black swan, conceptually speaking, is an occurrence of a magnitude so large, and thus rare, that it is theorized to happen once every couple of thousands of years.  In reality, black swan occurrences happen every decade or so.  Grey swans are similar to black swans, except that they aren’t as seismic in their occurrence and are more easily predicted.  In essence, their occurrence is only somewhat surprising, much like the occurrence of rational discourse in the age of insanity.
